Professor Lin-Hai Han (Doctor of Philosophy) is engaged in teaching and research in the area of structural engineering. In the past 30 years, he has focused on the concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) structure and established its life-cycle-based analytical theory, including the discovery of new phenomenon, the revealing of characteristic mechanical trends, the invention of structural detailing, the development of novel experimental apparatus, and the accurate calculations of structural resistances. He currently serves as President of Guangxi University, and is a tenured professor at Tsinghua University.

He has published 5 books, including Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Structures: Theory and Practice, Advanced Composite and Mixed Structures: Testing, Theory and Design Approach, Fire Safety Design Theory of Steel-Concrete Composite Structures, etc., and over 200 research papers. The research outcomes have been applied to the design of over 50 iconic constructions in sectors related to building, highway, railway, civil aviation, energy, etc. He has presided over the development of 6 technical standards on CFST structures, including the National Standard of China Technical Standard for Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Hybrid Structures, GB/T 51446-2021 (Chinese Edition and English Edition). He also is presiding over the development of an ISO standard Design Standard for Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular (CFST) Hybrid Structures.

He was appointed as a committee member of the Chair Advisory Group of ISO/TC 71, and serves as the convenor of ISO/TC 71/WG 2. He currently serves as the associate editors of China Civil Engineering Journal, Journal of Structural Engineering, and Structures which are journals published by China Civil Engineering Society (CCES), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the Institution of Structural Engineering (IStructE), respectively.

He was funded by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and appointed the Changjiang Distinguished Professorship of the Ministry of Education. As the first author, he was awarded the State Natural Science Award (Second Prize).
