Professor QuekSer Tong Was Appointed as Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University

In the morning of October 8th, Keppel Chair Professor Quek Ser Tong, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore, was appointed as Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University. Professor Quek gave a presentation entitled "Improving the Efficiency of Structural Reliability Computation". Professor Fang Dongping, chair of Council of School of Civil Engineering, awarded the appointment letter to Professor Quek. Professor Zhang Yi hosted the appointment ceremony. Professor Lu Xinzheng, head of institute of disaster prevention and mitigation, and Professor Li Quanwang, deputy director of the department of structural mechanics attended the presentation.

Professor Fang expressed his sincere congratulations to Professor Quek on his appointment as a distinguished visiting professor of Tsinghua University. In order to build a world-class university, Tsinghua keeps building connections with outstanding scholars worldwide. Professor Quek’s joining will enhance the international influence and reputation of the School as well as Tsinghua University. Professor Quek accepted the appointment and expressed his thankfulness for the recognition of his cooperation with Tsinghua University over the past ten years. He looked forward to the cooperation between the two universities in the future.

Dr Quek Ser Tong is currently the Keppel Chair Professor as well as Head, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Formerly, he was Vice Dean in charge of all graduate programmes at the Faculty of Engineering, NUS. He obtained his B.Eng. (Civil) from Monash University in 1979, M.Eng. from NUS in 1984 and Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1986. 


His research focuses on Structural Reliability and Simulation, Smart Materials, Structural Health Monitoring & Control, and Protective & Composite Structures. Based on Google Scholar ination, he has published more than 200 papers attracting close to 7500 citations and a H-index of 46. And he has won several awards including the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship. Prof. Quek is also on the editorial board of several journals including Structural Safety,International Journal of Structural Stability & Dynamics and the International Journal of Protective Structures
