Prof.
Eugen Brühwiler from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, visited
Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University on January 17th,
2018, and gave a lecture -“Enhancing Concrete Structures Using UHPFRC.”
“UHPFRC
is not a concrete; it is a composite. It has a strain hardening behavior, acts
as a kind of steel.” Prof. Eugen Brühwiler said, “You can use it to rehabilitate
or strengthen the existing historical or traditional structures without adding
any dead load. If you use it to construct a new structure according to the SIA
2052-2016 code, you can save at least 1/4~1/3 of total cost than use normal
concrete.” He gave some just completed field applications to explain his ideas
and the designing methods in detail. Prof. Eugen Brühwiler mentioned that
UHPFRC would be blooming in Europe and China in the coming future.
All participants really enjoyed Prof. Eugen Brühwiler‘s talk, and had thorough discussions on the hot topic.
Prof.
Xinying Lu gave the latest Chinese translation of SIA 2052-2016 to Prof. Eugen Brühwiler
as a gift for memo, which was authorized by Prof. Eugen Brühwiler, translated by
Zenghao Wang and revised by Jun Zhao. This Swiss code was originally written by
Prof. Eugen Brühwiler and his team.
