Prof. Skibniewski from the University of Maryland visited the Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University on March 16, 2018, and gave a lecture titled "Advancing Construction beyond BIM: Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) and Robotics in Construction". The lecture provided an overview of the latest technological developments in construction technologies based on additive manufacturing (3D printing) and robotics, and introduced basic classification of 3D printing applications as well as recent examples of ongoing and completed projects utilizing this technology. Prospects for the lasting impact of automation, robotics and 3D printing on integrated BIM applications in building construction are also discussed.
