On October 30, 2018, the appointment ceremony of Tsinghua Distinguished Visiting Professor Dennis Lam was held in Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University. Firstly, Professor Lin-Hai Han, Vice Dean of School of Civil Engineering, gave a brief introduction of Professor Dennis Lam in terms of his extraordinary academic achievements.Then, on behalf of the School, Professor Lin-Hai Han awarded Dennis Lam the certificate of Distinguished Visiting Professor.

Professor Dennis Lam was invited to present a speech. In his speech, Professor Lam expressed his gratitude for the recognition of the University and the School. He said “Tsinghua was his second hometown after UK”, and he would further strengthen the existing collaborative relationship. Following the ceremony, faculties and students from the Institute of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering had hot discussions on topics like various types of concrete strength definition, Elastic modulus of concrete, arch structures composed of bricks and stones. Professor Dennis Lam shared his experience with faculties and students accordingly.

Tsinghua Distinguished Visiting Professorship is an academic honorary title, which is awarded to top professors and scholars worldwide who have a high international reputation and can play an important role in talent training, scientific and academic research for Tsinghua.
