Prof. Žiga Turk from University of Ljubljana visited Department of Civil Engineering

Prof.  Žiga Turk and Dr. Robert Klinc from University of Ljubljana, Slovenia visited Department of Civil Engineering on March 13th, 2019. And Prof. Turk gave a lecture titled Ten Questions concerned about Building Ination Modelling. Prof. Zhiliang Ma, Assistant Prof. Jiarui Lin and about 20 students from Tsinghua University participated in the lecture.

In this lecture, Prof. Žiga asked and answered ten key questions about BIM, including what it is, how it will develop, how real are the promises and fears of BIM and what is its impact. The arguments in the answers were based on an understanding of BIM that considers BIM in the frame of structure-function-behavior paradigm.

After the lecture, audiences raised several questions about the implications of BIM for academic research and the inefficiency of BIM as a design tool. Prof. Turk gave comprehensive responds to the questions.

Žiga Turk is a Professor in Construction Inatics at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. In addition to his academic career where he worked on design communication, computer integrated construction and internet science, he was twice a minister in the Government of Slovenia and Secretary General of the Felipe Gonzalez's Reflection Group on the Future of Europe.

His academic interests include construction ination technology, computer integrated construction, building ination management (BIM), internet, Web and grid computing, design communication and philosophy of conceptual modeling. He wrote several papers on these subjects. He was partner in many EU projects since the 4th EU framework and coordinated two multi million euro ones.
