Academician Nie Jianguo elected as Division Director of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
At the 16th Academy Conference of the Chinese Academy of Engineering held on 30th May 2022, Academician Nie Jianguo, director of the Academic Committee of Tsinghua University and a professor in the School of Civil Engineering, was elected as director of the Civil, Hydraulic and Architectural Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Nie Jianguo is an expert in structural engineering, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a foreign academician of the Japan Academy of Engineering. He is also the director of the Future Urban and Infrastructure Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Building Structures. Nie Jianguo is also the vice chairman of the China Civil Engineering Society, director of the Professional Committee for Over-limit High-rise Building Engineering Technology of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, convener of the Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and director of the Expert Committee of the China Steel Structure Association. He has long been engaged in research on civil engineering structures, and his achievements have been widely applied in the fields of building structures, bridge structures, special structures, underground structures, and others, achieving significant technological, economic, and social benefits. He has won the National Science and Technology Progress Award (second prize), the National Technology Invention Award (first prize), and the National Science and Technology Progress Award (Innovation Team.) In addition to these accolades, he has also won the first Outstanding Talent Award of the China Steel Structure Association, the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, the He Liang & He Li Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Model Teacher, the National Advanced Worker, and the National Innovation Striving Award, among other honors.
