Department of Civil Engineering and Department of Construction Management held the Scientific Research Work Seminar Series on Urban Science and Management Direction via Zoom online meeting system at 19:00 PM, 26th March, 2020. The meeting was attended by totally 17 teaching staff, leaders of the Department Affairs Committee, and members of the Department Discipline Construction Working Group.
The meeting was chaired by Associated Professor Wu Jing, Head of the Department of Construction Management. Professor Pan Peng, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, briefly conveyed the spirit of the 18th Scientific Research Work Seminar of Tsinghua University and the theme of the seminar at the beginning.
Based on studying and discussing the spirit of the 18th Scientific Research Work Seminar of Tsinghua University and summarizing the research results of two departments during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the seminar focuses on the frontier issue and core technologies of urban science and management at present and in the future, and then proposes the key development direction of the two departments in this field and the core needs of the research platform construction in the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
Following, Liu Hongyu, Li Nan, Guo Hongling, Zhao Hongrui, Lin Jiarui, Yang Zan, Zhu Wenjun, Fang Dongping, Wang Shouqing, Ma Zhiliang, Wu Jing, Ye Zhenxiang, and so forth, spoke in turn about the individual understanding of the Scientific Research Work Seminar of Tsinghua University. Meanwhile, the views on promoting the research of urban science and management were discussed by them associated with multiple perspective.
In the 13th five-year plan period, the attendees of this seminar have carried out fruitful research work in the fields of infrastructure investment, construction & operation, measurement and management of urban resilience, housing policy and housing market, interaction between built environment and people, and measurement of urban efficiency, providing scientific support for policy formulation and industry development in related fields.
In the 14th five-year plan period, the attendees of this seminar plan to continue their research work on government/ company/ project governance based on engineering perspective, interaction between architecture/infrastructure and people, relationship between individual behavior and urban system, basic issues such as data collection and calculation in the urban field, improvement of urban resilience and management, upgrade of the five technologies of infrastructure, governance of major risks in the urban sector, and promoting development of Proptech.
In addition, they further discussed the specific needs and measures of the future city simulation platform construction, industry database construction, cooperation with large institutions, and other aspects.
At last, Professor Fang Dongping, Dean of School of Civil Engineering, made a summary speech to this seminar. He said that the study of urban science and management must break the rigid thinking, and suggested that in the future, alumni of relevant industry could be invited to participate in the seminar, so as to understand the needs of the industry, and coordinate the basic theoretical research and practical application research. In particular, on the basis of the current "wide spectrum" research of urban science and management in the two departments, it is necessary to condense several relatively concentrated research directions and form research synergy, so as to achieve the higher goal of the scientific research. Furthermore, Professor Fang Dongping also suggested that such seminars could be normalized, and all interested teachers are welcome to actively participate in the discussion of each group.
