On May 16, 2021, co-organized by State Key Laboratory of Hydroscience and Engineering as well as Department of Hydraulic Engineering at Tsinghua University, the annual geotechnical engineering event, Huang Wenxi Lecture, was held in the Xi Jiao Hotel and convened both online and offline.

In the Opening Ceremony, Associate Professor Xu Wenjie, Director of the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering of Department of Hydraulic Engineering at Tsinghua University has served as the moderator. On behalf of the co-organizers, Professor Li Danxun, Dean of Department of Hydraulic Engineering at Tsinghua University, has given a welcome speech. Professor Cai Zhengyin, editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, deputy chief engineer of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, has delivered a speech as the representative of the organizer. Being the student of Prof. Huang Wenxi, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Chen Zuyu from China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research has recalled the character and knowledge of Prof. Huang with emotions. Other attendees include special guests from the organizer, the editorial board of Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, representatives of Chinese Institution of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering - China Civil Engineering Society and other partner societies, as well as experts in the geotechnical field.

Academician Chen Zuyu, Academician Chen Yunmin, Academician Zhang Jianmin, and more than 400 geotechnical engineering experts, scholars and students from 30 universities and 20 research institutes have participated in the offline symposium, meanwhile with 4666 participants online. The keynote speaker, Professor Yang Guanghua from Guangdong Research Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower, has given a speech titled "Innovation and Development of Modern Foundation Design Theory". Focusing on inaccuracy problem of foundation sedimentation calculation, he proposed a new foundation design theory to achieve the unifying of stability and deformation analysis.

With the title of "Mechanism of Vacuum Pre-compressing Consolidation of Dredged Sludge and Clogging Prevention Treatment Technology of Drainage", keynote speaker, Professor Cai Yuanqiang from Zhejiang University of Technology, has elaborated the research results and technological innovations made in the pre-compression of dredged sludge from the perspectives of macro-micro mechanisms, calculation method, engineering application, etc.

Professor Li Guangxin from Tsinghua University presiding over the Closing Ceremony.

Mr. Huang Wenxi (1909-2001), serving as the professor of Department of Hydraulic Engineering at Tsinghua University since 1956, is the pioneer of China’s geotechnical engineering discipline, also making great contributions to the development of water resources and hydropower research and education. Established in 1998, the Huang Wenxi Lecture is organized annually by the editorial board of Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, and co-organized by four institutions in turn, Tsinghua University, Hohai University, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, and Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute. Each time, the organizer will select 2 keynote speakers and 4-5 special presenters to discuss cutting-edge scientific issues in the field of geotechnical engineering. Over the past 24 years, nearly 10,000 experts and students have participated in the events, and numerous academicians and academic leaders have served as the speakers. As the best form to commemorate Professor Huang Wenxi, this academic symposium will keep passing on to the future.
