March 22 was the 26th World Water Day and the first day of the 31st “China Water Week”. On that day, the Hydraulic Engineering Department of Tsinghua University and Barclays Bank jointly held “Barclays-Tsinghua University China Water Summit” at the New New Hydraulic Building of Tsinghua University. Yuan Si, Vice President of Tsinghua University, and Theodore Roosevelt IV, Chairman of Barclays Bank's Chairman of the Barclays' Clean Tech Initiative, made speeches at the summit.
With the continuous development and urbanization of China, environmental protection has become one of important national topics. At the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, the government pledged to improve the environment. The summit discussed the development of China’s water resources and the ecological protection. Wang Hao, member of CAE has made a keynote speech which introduced the challenges and goals of water conservation in China.
The seminar discussion covered technological and industrial solutions for water resources protection, innovative financial solutions for water projects, and the challenges and opportunities of China flowing from global water stresses.
The summit invited Project Manager of the World Bank’s Global Water Resources Department, Deputy Managing Director of the Water Conservation Fund of TNC, Chief Financial Officer of China Everbright Water, General Manager of IDE China and other world-renowned corporate representatives. international financial experts, scholars and representatives of technology companies gathered in Tsinghua University to explore the prospects of global water resources.
