Prof. Kenichi Soga from the University of
California, Berkeley visited Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua
University on June 18, 2018.
He gave a lecture titled “Smart
Infrastructure and Construction”. In his lecture, Prof. Soga mainly discussed
three aspects, which are innovation in sensor systems, innovation in high perance computing and how to make it
integrated, customer-centric and resilient, respectively.
In summary,
combined with the Internet of Things technology, sensors like fiber optic cable and
wireless sensor can play an important role in the designing, monitoring and maintenance of our infrastructures.
And this provides exciting opportunities for CEE to understand the real
perance of infrastructure and construction. Meanwhile, we researchers need
to quantify the value of sensing for smart infrastructure. Fortunately,
micro-simulations at the city scale is becoming possible and we have a chance
to model large scale systems in real time.
